Love Your Lenses Week 2019
Contact lenses have changed millions of people’s lives and as practice we have hundreds of patients wearing lenses, from 8-year olds to 88-year olds. They are simple and convenient and are now available in practically all prescriptions.
To mark Love your Lenses week 2019, our Optometrists have compiled a list of their biggest dos and don’ts when it comes to contact lens care:
Dos:
-
Have regular 6 month contact lens check-ups
-
Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before handling
-
Use solutions recommended by your Optometrist to clean reusable lenses
-
Always put in and take out your lenses in the same order
-
Replace your lens case as often as your Optometrist recommends
-
Make sure you have an adequate supply of spare contact lenses and a back up pair of glasses
-
Stick to your recommended wearing schedule, as discussed in your tutorial appointment
Don’ts:
-
Do not wear your contact lenses for longer than the recommended wear time
-
If you have the same prescription right and left, and wear reusable lenses, do not mix your right and left lenses
-
Do not clean your contact lenses with tap water
-
Do not shower or swim in contact lenses
-
Do not sleep in your lenses, unless specifically advised by your Optometrist
-
Do not share contact lenses
-
Do not reuse or top up solution in your lens case. Discard and replace with fresh solution each night
-
Do not use any eye drops without advice from your Optometrist
Most importantly: If you have any discomfort, irritation or redness, stop using your lenses and contact the practice for advice.
If you love your eyes, love your lenses:
