Michael’s Trip to Ethiopia

Michael has recently come back from his annual trip abroad with Vision Aid Overseas. This year he spent an enjoyable and worthwhile fortnight in Ethiopia:
‘ I always come home feeling fulfilled and grateful for the opportunity to help change lives and make a difference. A typical day involves an early start from base to reach some of the most rural communities, many of which do not have easy access to healthcare. There, we run clinics checking eye health and prescriptions for patients ranging from childhood to the elderly (we saw a particularly lovely lady who had recently celebrated her 100th birthday!). The feeling of handing out new spectacles to patients is unrivaled. I particularly enjoy prescribing for young children, often allowing them the opportunity to go to school and receive a proper education for the first time. Whilst there, I was also able to spend a day mentoring Optometrists at the hospital.
The team’s work meant 700 people received a life-changing new pair of glasses. This would not have been possible without your generosity. We are always overwhelmed by your donations and willingness to keep our spectacle recycling box overflowing – thank you!’
